In more and more structural applications polymer materials are used to outperform steel and other structural metals by providing adequate strength or stiffness at lower weight and cost, but can not be utilized due to the drawback lacking any electrical and thermal conductivity.

Different additives (soot, carbonfibres, metal fibres, ceramics, etc.) are incorporated to give the polymers the necessary properties. Each of these materials does not only affect electrical and thermal conductivity, it also leads to lots of drawbacks like sloughing, bad surface quality etc.

However, our CNT-polymer technology is designed to realize the “electrically conductive insulator” broadening the use of plastics in applications where just metals can be utilized without using sophisticated processing parameters.

Due to their excellent electrical & thermal conductivity as well nucleating agent for polymers Carbon Nanotubes afford both electrical & thermal conductivity and mechanical reinforcement in plastics already at moderate loading. Using other common conductive additives one has to com - promise on mechanical pro perties, surface quality and migration of the filler from surface areas.

Compared with other commodity fillers carbon tubes offer significant advantages over many existing materials due to their exceptional mechanical, electrical and chemical properties such as:
